  • Hop hash is concentrated and powerful form of hop. Its the resins and lupulin that drop out while they are going though conveyors and all the complicated machinery that separates the cones. It is gathered by hand at the hop farm, raw and unprocessed.

  • It’s an elegant high wire act. Peacharine and Nelson Sauvin wet hops, picked at their aromatic peak, rushed to the brewery and plunged immediately into the awaiting beer to seal in their harvest fresh flavour. The result is a luscious smooth hazy, bursting with a sun ripened medley of peach, nectarine, apricot, plum, pear and mango, layered with an unmistakable wet cone character. It’s hop harvest in a can.

  • Apparently, The Green Room is the ultimate zen moment in surfing. It's also the 4th in the Mean Doses staff brew series.

    When Haruka asked about making a pale ale with Nelson Sauvin hops and Sauvignon Blanc grape juice, Dean was like, sure. And let's do it with freshly harvested Nelson Sauvin hops and freshly pressed Sauvignon Blanc grape juice, just cos we can.

    As with surfing, once inside The Green Room, "you wish to get back again and again and again, if you make it back out, you experience a flash of adrenaline, energy and joy that is not comparable to anything else, a true gift of nature". Nah lol, it's just a beer.

Built by Kenny, brought to Ohope, now rolling deep with Sulphur City, E.D. is a flaked, candied, laced, velvet, scaled and striped clash fantasy. Serving 80s excess AND 90s gangsta. Regulators, mount up! What better ride to represent our fresh hop drop for 2025. So dank and so green with stonefruit and citrus deliciousness, this NZIPA gets the best out of the mythical 109, with Nectaron, Rakau and Mot hops also making noise straight from the bine.

  • NZH-109 returns in this fresh hopped Pilsner! Fresh cones are delivered from Mac Hops in Nelson direct to Sawmill in Matakana. They are in the brew within 24 hours of being harvested. What to expect from this fresh hop beer? A super fresh twist on our original Pilsner. Punchy citrus character from fresh hop NZH-109 out of Mac Hops in Upper Moutere.

  • From 1917 to 1952, New Plymouth Prison was mainly used to detain apparent 'deviants’ convicted of homosexual offences. Fortunately those archaic days of discrimination have long since passed, but by acknowledging our history we can look forward with a sense of pride and inclusiveness alongside our local rainbow community.

    This bright IPA bursts with colourful hop character as a nod to our LGBTQI+ whanau. The fresh use of Motueka hops from Freestyle Hops gives lemon blossom and lime leaf characteristics.

    This year's harvest marks the fifteenth anniversary of our multi-award-winning fresh hop pilsner. For 2025, it's been carefully crafted with Riwaka™ and Motueka™ hops from the Tasman region, hand-selected, collected, and raced back to the brewery by our Master Brewer, Tracy Banner.

    They lend exquisite and more-ish notes of mixed citrus and tropical fruit, a pleasant sweetness and a bright, resinous note. These are balanced against a rock-solid foundation of a crisp, dry, and quite frankly terrific Pilsner.
