Road to Beervana at The Hop Garden

Written by

We are holding three events this year to celebrate Road to Beervana in what is shaping up to be an exciting week.

First up on Wednesday 10 August from 3pm onwards, New Zealand brewing legend Richard Emerson is parking his Mini in The Top Garden for The Emerson's 'Mini' Tap Takeover. Richard will be pouring several of Dunedin's finest ales which we'll be matching with whiskey. James is also going to be cooking up some tasty BBQ treats to match the beer and whiskey.

On Thursday 11 August from Noon it is The East Coast IPA Challenge.  A tip of the cap to our favourite event in Wellington, the iconic West Coast IPA challenge at the Malthouse, it’s simply a celebration of East Coast New Zealand breweries who don’t make it down to Wellington so often. There is no East-West coast feud and it promises to be a day of fun. Special guests Colin Mallon and Ciaran Duffy from Malthouse will be joining us at Noon to judge the beers...

We’ll be pouring some widely known beers from this part of the country plus 7 (and counting) beers brewed just for the event from:

Brave Brewing
Rocky Knob

Other East Coast breweries such as Hawkes Bay Independent Brewery and Zeelandt will also be featured. We're stoked to have so many involved and excited to try the beers they've brewed for us. Note: not all will be IPAs.

Finally, on Sunday 14 August from 10.30am, hungover SOBA members can come down for The  post-Beervana SOBA brunch. For just $30, breakfast, juice or coffee and a pint will be provided and shuttle buses should hopefully be provided to Wellington Airport for your flights home.

Tickets are available from the SOBA website:

See you all over the Beervana week.
