Support the 2015 Craft Beer Calendar and SAPN

Written by

An idea that began as a way to celebrate craft beer's best beards has taken on a life of its own - all to raise money for a good cause.

More than $2000 was pledged to the Craft Beer Calendar in the five days after launching a PledgeMe campaign, and the organisers are hoping to raise several thousand dollars for the Sexual Assault Prevention Network. Each month will feature images of the people and places at the heart of the community, including (so far) Yeastie Boys, Hashigo Zake, Golding's Free Dive, Malthouse, Good George, Craft Beer Capital, Pomeroys and Panhead.

One of the organisers, Jessica Ducey, says she has been astounded by the support so far.

"The best thing about New Zealand craft beer is the beautiful people who create and serve it. From brewers and bartenders to the writers and educators, it's the people that make it more than just an industry - it's a community.

"Within minutes of the idea being hatched at the Pacific Beer Expo, people started to volunteer their services. Models, photographers, beard stylists and fundraisers have all stepped up."

SAPN is a steering group member of the 'Who Are You? Safer Bars Project' and delivers the programme's ethnical bystander training. The Safer Bars Project promotes identification and prevention of sexual violence within hospitality settings through the inclusion of specific sexual violence-related training material.
